EMI/RFI and Corrosion

When choosing shielding to meet your EMI/RFI needs it is crucial to consider many factors, both internal and external.  During the design phase it is imperative to consider materials compatibility.  Inappropriate selection can lead to significant  problems down the road with one key component being corrosion.  The engineers at NEDC Fabricating Solutions are fully aware of metal selection with regards to product life as well as compatibility.  If corrosion occurs at the mating surface conduction contact is affected and shielding effectiveness will be eventually diminished.  The corrosion will often occur after the product has been in the field for a period of time thus secondary to the ineffectiveness of the device is the increasing expense to proper maintenance and possible redesign.  At NEDC Fabricating Solutions we understand the importance of design phase selection of material compatibility and realize the right time to select the product is the first time.  Give us a call at 1-800-224-6332 or visit our web site at www.NEDC.com.  In future discussions we will touch upon finishes, organic finishes, primers, and specific metal compatibility in relation to metal corrosion.
