For various reasons including plating adhesive improvements, profile design, and availability of flame retardent material the use of fabric over foam has become a primary choice for EMI shielding in respect to indoor electronic housing applications. Because there has been such a sharp spike in the commercial electronic sector the need for cost effective materials paralleled with successful applications has resulted in the growth of fabric over foam utilization. The ease of application has also been a reason for the switch from metal spring fingers such as beryllium copper to the more popular foam over fabric. One concern is that fabric over foam is not the best choice for applications where temperatures approach 70 degrees and above, and when long-term performance is critical.
